Renée Prinz (Antwerp 1883 - Namur 1973)
Post-impressionist painter and watercolorist of Ardennes landscapes, still lifes, flowers and portraits. Briefly practice sculpture.
Born in Antwerp to parents from Liége, whose father was a Senior Officer, Renée Prinz was, through family tribulations, a student at the Academies of Mons first, Antwerp and finally Namur from 1905.
There she was a student of Nicolas Vanden Eden then Désiré Merny, through whom she perhaps contracted the landscape design virus, even if we also owe her portraits and still lifes (the city has some). A certain tradition was thus instilled in him, because Merny was rather circumspect with regard to Modern Art. She spent her entire career in Namur, but her beginnings coincided with escapades in the Ourthe and Semois valleys, as well as in the Antwerp Campine.
