wonderfully dramatic large-scale French giltwood mirror in the Rococo/Louis XV taste, crowned with an exuberant carved floral and foliate crest. The frame is richly ornamented with roses, scrolling acanthus, beaded trim, and raised carved corner details, all finished in a warm, time-softened antique gold gilt.
The tall rectangular mirror plate is framed by deeply modeled decoration, giving it the sort of presence that can carry an entire wall—over a mantel, in an entry, dressing room, or behind a console. It has that gloriously over-the-top French château feeling without being too precious. Likely late 19th to early 20th century, with a mix of carved wood and composition ornament typical of the period.
