The name Fickle was born in a flash of humor and self-awareness. While brainstorming names for her new venture, owner Lori Smithers was asked what her dream business would be like. She laughed and said, “Well, I don’t know… in a perfect world, I want what I want, when I want it. I guess I’m just fickle.” Her eyes went wide, a knowing smile spread across her face, and in that instant, she named the next chapter of her life.

She had no idea just how prophetic it would be. In January 2020, Lori set off for England, hunting for treasures to fill her first container. By March, as that shipment arrived, whispers of a strange illness from China began turning into headlines. Within weeks, the world shut down. Lori tucked that container into storage, turned her focus to finishing The White Barn in Round Top, Texas, and,  like the rest of the world, waited.

When the Round Top Antique Show finally returned in October 2021, it was later in the season than ever before. The air was cooler, the crowds larger, and the pent-up joy of getting back out into the world was electric. The show was a runaway success. And Lori? She had gone big from the start,  no more sweating in the fields of Warrenton. The White Barn had air conditioning, bathrooms, and, in true Fickle style, the now-famous champagne vending machine.
