Offering this rich Italian hand-painted Bombay chest from the early 1940s. This Bombay remains absolutely gorgeous despite its defects. Actually, the defects make this Bombay chest all the more alluring and beautiful. This piece with painted using cloth, gesso, and paint. A trademark to the flamboyant and whimsical Italian-painted furniture which have been created for centuries.

Marked "Made in Italy" dates this piece to the 1940s. The chest features a serpentine front and sides, with seven working drawers and two working doors. The original key remains with the piece. There is paint wear all over the piece and in some places the cloth used to cover the piece prior to painting is exposed. It adds to the history and craftsmanship of this gesso and painted piece. The raised and gilded scroll relief is amazing and adds just that more whimsy and elegance.
