French Yeast Jar With Lid - 1920s Green Painted

Antique Italian terra cotta yeast jars from the 1800s and early 1900s were designed to be used in the kitchens of Italian households for the fermentation of yeast. During the fermentation process, heated water was added to the jar, and yeast was harvested from the previous batch of dough. These traditional green and yellow vessels have a special glazed finish and each one was individually made and may have slightly different shapes and sizes. The jars are highly sought after and are becoming more difficult to find. They make a great addition to any home decor or collection.

This particular jar was believed to be from the 1920s and the lid remains intact with the piece as well.
